' A Life Within.' is composed of fired clay painted over with oils. The disk represents the RNA of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the outer ring has the corona spike proteins, in the center the coiled mass is its RNA this part is made of coiled metal (Nordic Gold) from my foundry. The rod penetrates through the cell walls and the balloon shapes are alveoli - the lung's air sacs.
The bottom mesh section has a distressed, human figure behind it, and the upper right hand side represents the eventual freedom from the virus, also its shape is a smaller version of the overall frame shape. the green, avocado looking part represents the trachea from the inside.
The virus creates a terrible disease but in itself it has life and all nature has beauty within. The virus is not very confrontable because of its effects and invisibility and I hope to bridge that gap with aesthetics.
