Is there a connection to the Martian 'seep' stains with the recent announcement of methane in Mars atmosphere?

In August of 2001 I presented a paper on the Seep Stains of Mars at the Mars Society Convention held at Stanford University. In the paper it was postulated that the dark streaks on Mars are 'stains' or seeps that are water related and that the different variations of colorization were possibly due to some type of life form going through a life cycle on the exposed water seepages.

The map below shows an overlay of the water/methane concentrations recently released over the stains/seep map of Mars. The areas are closely related which raises the possiblity that the dark stains of Mars may be markers for water...and life.
